“Puppet Nation” And “Point of Order” Garner Ten SAFTA Nominations For Both Worlds
By ZANEWS February 17, 2017
CAPE TOWN – Both Worlds, the production company behind ZANews’ Puppet Nation and Point of Order, is proud to announce the two titles have received a combined 10 South African Film and TV Award (SAFTA) nominations.
Now in its 12th season, Puppet Nation is an established name in South African satire and comedy, featuring a cast of latex local and international celebrities and politicians, from Jacob Zuma to George Clooney, DJ Fresh to Donald Trump. Not only popular with audiences, even those satirised by the show, but also critics, Puppet Nation has garnered a slew of accolades including 17 SAFTAS, two Writers Guild of South Africa Muse Awards, 10 IAB Bookmarks and two International Emmy nominations.
2016 was the inaugural season of Point of Order, with the second season in post-production, and the third in pre-production. Based on the shenanigans in the South African parliament, Point of Order is a comedy panel show hosted by the brilliant Tumi Morake. The show allows for SA’s top comedians to introduce important and vital new laws ‐ like singing in the shower should feature 90% local content ‐ and special guests a chance to talk well, politics almost like real MPs do. Perhaps with only a little more sensibility. With just one season to its name the nominations in the “Best Game Show” and “Best TV Presenter” categories are an honour for Both Worlds. Fans of Morake’s are invited to vote for her by sending an sms with the letter “J” to 48430. All sms’ are charged at R1.50.
Commenting on the nomination, executive producer of both shows and founder of Both Worlds, Thierry Cassuto said, “The team just loves the love that it gets from the judges, the industry and our viewers. When the going gets tough and people lose their faith in politicians and celebs, we just push on and find ways to still make them think, talk and laugh about it.”
Puppet Nation is broadcast weekly on StarSat’s Star One (channel 110) on Saturdays at 21:00 and 20:00 on Sundays. It is also available daily via the web and mobile at www.zanews.co.za, YouTube, and as a podcast on iTunes, Google Play and other podcast providers. Point of Order returns to StarSat’s Star One on the 18th of March.
Both shows are also run back-to-back on TV screens in the Saxonwold Shebeen.
